 About Andrew

Andrew Milot grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Michigan. Prior to moving to Dallas, he lived in Alaska, the Czech Republic and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Mexico and Central America.

He has played guitar for more than twenty years. His passion for the instrument embraces a wide variety of musical styles, from classical and jazz to country, latin and rock. He has studied with internationally known classical guitarists Carlo Pezzimenti and Robert Guthrie, studio professional Tom Hanby and others. He has attended master classes taught by Chet Atkins and Christopher Parkening. He has played with Larry T-Bird Gordon's band.

  • Is is necessary to sign a contract?

    There are no registration fees and no contracts to sign.  Weekly lessons are scheduled and billed monthly.  Payment is due at the first of the month.

  • How much do you charge for lessons?

    $100 per month for four half-hour lessons.  Suzuki students are also encouraged to attend a weekly repertoire class (at no additional charge).  Hour lessons can also be arranged at a discounted rate for age-appropriate students.

  • What happens if I miss a lesson? Can I make it up?

    Yes: As long as you cancel at least 24 hours in advance.

  • What is the Suzuki Method?

    The Suzuki Method was developed by a Japanese violin teachet.  His philosophy includes parental involvement, creating a positive nuturing environment, and learning at first by ear.

  • What kind of guitar should I have for my child?

    A nylon string guitar.  For children 8 and under, a 1/2 size guitar is reccomended. For children 9-12 a 3/4 size guitar is appropriate.  For children 13 and over, a full size guitar guitar is best.

  • Where can I find a child-sized nylon-stringed guitar and strings?

    There are multiple online retailers for childrens guitars. Strunal is a brand thart makes relatively inexpensive childrens sizes.  Mean Tone Guitars are also a maker of fine childrens guitars.

  • What should I expect at my first session?

    Before I begin teaching the child, I holda meeting with the parent in which we discuss the Suzuki philosophy, learn to string and tune a guitar and play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"

  • What kind of guitar should I bring?

    That depends on the style of music your child wants to learn.  There are three main types of guitars: classical guitars with nylon strings, acoustic guitars with steel strings, and electric guitars with magnetic pickups.

  • What should I bring to the first session?

    A guitar and a CD or digital music files you (or your child) would like to learn.
